Updates for 5A and 5D: Gregg LeRock concert will be Monday May 14. (morning only) Forms went home this week. Please contact your child's homeroom teacher if you are able to volunteer. All grade 5 classes will attend. Please see "Francais" tab on main grade 5 blog page for more information. H.S. -Sexual Health classes are happening this week for grade 5's. In grade 5 we cover the topics of: -Puberty -Male and female reproductive organs -conception Students who have opted out of these classes (with written confirmation) are working on alternate health projects. 5A MATH:- 5A will have a math test on Wednesday April 18. Students have all received review sheets. I have attached a copy above. We will continue to review on Monday and Tuesday. - Today we started our second design challenge project. Students worked in groups to design sculptures to fit in various spaces. They will create their sculptures on Friday April 27. 5A French: Due to Design challenge prep, we did not have time for presentations of the French projects. All students should be prepared to present on Tuesday April 17. They have worked SO hard on these and I am very impressed with the results I have seen so far! 5D French: 5D will continue to work on past and future tenses. POW #23 due this Thursday - There will be a mini quiz (check-in) on fractions this Thursday. It will cover: - Equivalent fractions, ordering and comparing fractions, finding common denominators and naming parts of a fraction. French 5D -Students are working on family trees. They may bring in a family picture to use while describing their families. Please read the following re: Math class for parents of students in grades 4-6. The session is focused on teaching parents lots of fun games and activities that you can do at home with your children to help support their numeracy skills. Bonjour! I just wanted to let you know that we have changed the date of the unit test on multiplication and division. It will be Wednesday January 24. review_sheets_for_unit_test.docx Review sheets are attached. Extra help will be available Wednesday and Thursday this week and Monday next week, Intensive French Conversations: Starting next week each student will have a conversation in French to show off what they have learned this term. These will be one-on-one conversations which will last about 10-15 minutes. There is no need to practice at home as we practice daily in class. The dates for these conversations are Jan. 22, 25, 29 and Feb 1. Your child may be scheduled for any one of those days. Bonjour!
I hope that everyone had a wonderful and relaxing winter break. We are right back into the swing of things in 5A. In French students are working on a project that will include work they have done in all themes we have covered so far. In math we are working on long division. We will have a test on the unit (multiplication and division) on January 25. Review sheets will be sent home well in advance. POW #13 is due this Thursday.pow_13.docx

Here are a few updates for this week: In French we are working on speaking in full sentences, describing a day in our life. By the end of the week, many students will be ready to start working on their written project which is a comic strip depicting their routines of a day. It is amazing to hear how well they are speaking French after only a few weeks!! In math we have almost finished our unit in whole numbers. We will have a unit test next Thursday November 2.
